With many of computer maker looking at getting into the mobile phone business, so too are the some of the mobile phone companies like Nokia who have been the butt of many rumours recently, although they have confirmed that they will be entering the laptop market. It looks as if they will be using a computer maker who are based in Taiwan and as for the brain it is going to be a straight choice between the Intel Atom processor or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon, the later being the most likely choice as the winner of chip war. Smartphone’s have been a great source of revenues for Nokia, but now it seems that mini laptops are the key to the future for the phone company. Source [Eweek Europe] a 10" Netbooks, atom, intel, laptops, mobile phone companies, nokia, Nokia Laptops, qualcomm, taiwan
a

Owners of Asus Eee Pc mini laptops who are not happy with their 4 Gb, 12 Gb, or 16 Gb solid state drives (SSD) this is good news for Asus users who want a better faster machine without having to pay for a complete upgrade. Of course, owners who live in Taiwan would only need to pay around $43 to Asus and they would do it for them, for everyone else it’s either a trip the repair man or do it yourself. Currently it is supposed to be just for the Eee PC 901 and live near to an Asus service centre. The payment allows the user to be upgraded to the next level. Source [Liliputing] a 8.9" Netbooks, ASUS Netbooks, asus users, eee pc, laptops, next level, solid state drives, SSD, taiwan
a

Wow! I first talked about this Bamboo Asus laptop yesterday in the news roundup, and today I wanted to share some of the early specs. I guess this has been out in Taiwan for a while and it will be hitting the U.S. soon. All things considered, this is a massive little machine. The bamboo is more than just gimmick, and I think the specs speak pretty well for themselves. Plus, the bamboo makes this a really green computer. The pandas have been right about the stuff all along. It’s a little over 3 pounds, but has a 12.1″ display, up from the small 10″ displays. If you go to town on this and pick up the best options, you could have a nice looking wooden laptop. I can’t wait to see what pricing is. You’ll see a Intel Core 2 Duo, and an Nvidia GeForce graphics setup.: Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate Processor: Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor Processor Speed: Depends RAM: 4GB Weight: 3.46 lbs Display Size: 12.1″ Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® 9300M GS External 256MB VRAM Storage Capacity: 320 GB Networking Options: Intel® WiMAX/WiFi Link 5100 Primary Optical Drive: DVD Super Multi Double Laye The Asus Website has … Continue reading →
a

Here’s a great way to make a freestanding laptop stand from a coat hanger. What a great idea, you can essentially go anywhere there’s a coat hanger and make one of these. At the moment I am living in Beijing China and plan to be moving to Taiwan in a few months. So I am not too interested in buying much more furniture. However I notice that laptop screen being rather low tend to make me hunch over even more then I do with a desktop computer. So I bent up a coat hanger to prop up my laptop and decided to make my first instructable in the process. source a beijing china, coat hanger, desktop computer, furniture, instructable, Laptop Accessories, Laptop DIY, Laptop Fun, Laptop Mat, laptop screen, laptop stand, laptop stand, living in beijing, taiwan
a

It looks like ASUS is working on the high-end Eee PC versions, currently dubbed, “ASUS S101″. I really like this concept as I feel that ASUS Eee PCs weren’t going to satisfy my high-power requirements for mobile computing. According to CNET Crave Taiwan and HKEPC, Asus is preparing a high-end version of Eee PC that features 64GB SSD. The new laptop will named as the S101 and the Eee PC brand will be dropped to reflect the higher price tag of $899 USD. The Asus S101 will be powered by Intel’s Atom processor and has a 10.2-inch LCD display with LED backlit. There are two models, one with 32GB SSD that costs $699, and one with 64GB SSD for $899. via itechnews a ASUS Netbooks, atom, eee pc, hkepc, intel, laptop, Laptop News, lcd display, mobile computing, models, pc versions, price tag, s101, SSD, taiwan
a

Rumor say that ASUS is building an ASUS Eee Linux Box. Basically, it looks almost like a Wii or something but don’t expect any gaming consoles, it’s still just a computer that looks stylish. As per our previous speculation, an official launch of the Eee Box will indeed take place on June 3rd at Computex in Taiwan. Hardly surprising given the show is in Taiwan, the home of Asus and many a computing manufacturer. Specs wise, our source told us the machines would be launching with 2GB RAM as standard, along with a 160GB hard drive – obviously not an SSD. These new machines will be running the same Linux distro found on the Eee PCs – no bad thing by our reckoning. It’ll be launching in the UK in Q3 and be available and be available in white, though no word was made as to the availability of the proposed black version. Finally, and somewhat disappointingly, our source couldn’t confirm whether these early systems would in fact be using the Centrino Atom platform adding: “I honestly don’t know at this point”. In any case, with other vendors beginning to announce Atom powered machines, the odds are overwhelmingly stacked in … Continue reading →
a
