Although MSI Notebook listed as #2 choice for our latest Netbook Review, MSI is coming out with a new Wind U120 that might change all that. What I like about this new MSI netbook is the fact that either WiMAX or HSDPA broadband connection will be available through SIM card insertion or subscription from Sprint’s new WiMAX network. Another rumor is that the new MSI might come with 20GB/40GB SSDs, which is a good thing but I still feel regular ol’ harddrives are better as SSD are still having some problems with Windows XP writes. We will have to wait and see but I am glad that MSI is already working on the new laptop. According to what we know so far, the new U120 will feature either a 120GB hard drive or 20/40GB SSD which will come at a later date. Other specs should be similar to the older U100, as there are no changes to the CPU or other key features. The business side of the U120 will be in its connectivity, as this one should come with 802.11n Wi-Fi and built-in 3.5G modem that will accept a SIM card. via laptopfresh, source a 10.2" Netbooks, 120gb hard … Continue reading →
a

After months of announcement, Samsung is finally giving out these FlashSSDs to manufacturers for designing new low-priced laptops/PCs such as the mini-laptops. SEOUL, South Korea–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, announced today that it has begun sampling low-density, higher-performance solid state drives (SSDs) that are only 30 percent of the size of 2.5-inch SSDs and highly cost-efficient to manufacture. With the introduction of these smaller, low-capacity SSDs, Samsung now offers an attractive replacement for existing hard drives used in low-cost PCs. Available in densities of 8GB, 16GB and 32GB, the new multi-level-cell SSDs will be mass produced beginning next month. “We’ve refined our manufacturing techniques and redesigned our low-density SSDs to get what the low-priced PC market is looking for in the way of improved cost, performance and availability,” said Jim Elliott, Vice President, Memory Marketing, Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. The low-density Samsung SSDs use the same high-performance SATA II controller technology as that being used on Samsung’s just-introduced MLC-based 128GB SSD. Samsung’s new MLC-based SSD at 32GB capacity will read data (sequentially) at 90MB/s and write it (sequentially) at 70MB/s – performance levels much greater than low-density SSDs on the market today.
Samsung announces their mass production of 128 Flash SSD drives. These will last longer and work faster, especially designed for notebook PCs. Las Vegas, NV, January 6, 2008 — Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the leader in advanced semiconductor technology, announced today that it has developed a multi-level cell (MLC) flash-based 128 Gigabyte (GB) solid state drive (SSD) that it will produce this year in 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch versions for notebook and desktop PCs, as well as other mobile applications. The new drive offers a data writing speed of 70 megabytes per second (MB/s), the industry’s highest for MLC-based SSDs. Samsung’s 128GB SSD will be demonstrated in a notebook PC at CES 2008 in its Semiconductor Product Showcase, Room N236, at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), North Hall, 2nd Floor. The complete suite of Samsung SSDs will also be displayed at Samsung Electronics’ Booth 11033, in the LVCC’s Central Hall. The Samsung MLC-based SSD’s write speed of 70MB/s was achieved through the use of optimized controller technology and highly efficient flash-management firmware technology. Adding to its exceptional performance, Samsung’s 128GB SSD reads data at 100MB/s. via samsung a advanced semiconductor, ces 2008, controller technology, flash ssd, inch versions, Laptop Hardware, … Continue reading →
a
