According to a statement by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there is a certain amount of Sony Vaio laptops that could be prone to overheating issues. The CPSC have received around thirty complaints about the problem. The total amount computers affected by this problem is well over half a million and with only ninety thousand being sold in Europe that’s a lot to go around the rest of the world. The problem affects machines with the serial numbers beginning with VPCF11 and VPCW2. There is a support page on the Sony Site, where help can be found, but currently the company are issuing the machines with updated Bios settings, which should solve the problem. However the ultraportable is not heavy either weighing in at just 1.3 kg. Source [Stuff] a apple, apple mac, apple macbook, laptop, laptops, sony, Sony Laptops, sony vaio, ultraportable
a

Since Sony started making the VAIO line of laptops in the late ’90s, they have been superior business and play machines. And with the newest laptop offering, the Sony VAIO VGN-Z590, not much has changed as far as superior products go. In terms of specs though, the new Sony VAIO VGN-Z590 has some killer additions. First and foremost, the Z590 is ultraportable, weighing in at 3.2-pounds. And with such a small frame, reviewers all over the net are blown away by the amount of gadgetry stuffed into the frame. The Z590 offers a Blu-Ray player, an Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 processor set that clocks at 2.53 GHz. And with a 13.1 inch display, the Z590′s nVidia GeForce 9300 M GS graphics card can do same damage. The Z590 took home an editors choice award from PC Magazine, which praised the laptop in its review. The Z590 is top-of-the-line and it carries a price to reflect the specs, ringing in between $3265 and $3791. Let’s take a look at the spec breakdown: Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo P9500 Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz RAM: 4 GB Weight: 3.2 lb Screen Size: 13.1 inches Graphics: … Continue reading →
a

Sony has announced their new 11-inch Sony VAIO TT with Blue-ray discs and weight only 2.87 pounds. I do like it but pricing seems to be a little on the high side for this one. I’d like to spend less money on such laptops. But yes, this Sony VAIO TT would qualify as a netbook, barely with 11.1″. Here’s the press release from Sony: SONY UNVEILS WORLD’S LIGHTEST BLU-RAY DISC NOTEBOOK SAN DIEGO, Sept. 23, 2008— Sony today took the wraps off the world’s lightest computer with Blu-ray Disc™ technology— the VAIO® TT Series notebook. Housed in a lightweight carbon-fiber chassis, this new model weighs just 2.87 pounds and is less than 1-inch thin. “This engineering marvel packs the power of HD technology into an ultra-light, ultra-portable notebook,” said Mike Abary, senior vice president of VAIO product marketing at Sony Electronics. Select models play Blu-ray Disc movies in full HD 1080p resolution when connected to a compatible HDTV. These units can also record, store and play back personal content on high-capacity BD media. It features an 11.1-inch widescreen display (measured diagonally) with Sony’s XBRITE-DuraView™ LCD technology, delivering 100 percent color saturation for a wide range of vibrant colors and true-to-life … Continue reading →
a

Sony announces arrival of their new 15.4″ and 14″ business laptops, Sony VAIO NS and Sony VAIO CS, repectively. There’s no word on exact specs of these new Sony VAIO beasts but both laptops do come with Blue-ray disc drives, 802.11n wireless, and a nice option to downgrade to Windows XP. Now, these are the budget-versions of Sony VAIO’s business laptops but they still pack heavy-duty features such as the Blue-ray disc, which we love to watch movies on. Excerpt from Press Release on the Sony VAIO NS: The VAIO NS notebook features an optional Blu-ray Disc-ROM drive that is ideal for viewing HD content. It also has the added convenience of DVD and CD read/write functionalities. The PC is equipped with a 15.4-inch (measured diagonally) widescreen display, and Sony's own XBRITE-ECO(TM) LCD technology for sharp details and vivid colors. The NS model easily accesses your music, movies and the Internet. Its integrated A/V mode features a dedicated menu, putting entertainment within easy reach by letting you select up to nine programs, such as a favorite web site, from one location. Packing an Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo processor, significant RAM and ample storage, the NS notebook is equipped with the … Continue reading →
a

Check out the new Fujitsu FMV-U8240, it looks pretty amazing but only thing I am afraid of is price and availability. Right now the UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) is getting quite popular, but companies like Toshiba (Libretto 50/70/100) or Sony (Vaio U) have been offering such products for quite a long time, leading the category. As usual the first versions were pretty expensive, until Microsoft decided to turn to the UMPC as a “standard”, therefore opening the door to other companies… as a result, the choice is wider, and from 900 to 2000€ (appx 1200 – 2700$) most of us can find something to match our needs. Among those is the all-new Fujitsu FMV-U8240. via akihabara a akihabara, fujitsu, fujitsu fmv, Fujitsu Laptops, Laptop News, Laptop Reviews, Laptop Video, long time, microsoft, mobile pc, netbook, sony, sony vaio, toshiba, toshiba libretto 50, UMPC
a

Sony VAIO FW series was unveiled today in Korea. With Blue-ray disc reader and a hefty HD 16.4″ display, this VAIO is packed with power for the ultimate laptop-HD experience. SEOUL, Korea (AVING) — <Visual News> Sony Korea launched its high-performance multi-media notebook ‘VAIO FW Series’ in Korea market, which is created for the next generation of HD entertainment. It combines the must-have features of a true 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen display with an integral Blu-ray Disc drive. Surprisingly compact yet with an impressive 16.4-inch display and hugely powerful thanks to a potent mix of Intel Core 2 Duo processors and ATI graphics, the VAIO FW has everything you need to make mobile HD a reality. The specially designed screen packs in the visual superlatives Sony is renowned for. The WXGA++ (1600 x 900) resolution means masses of workspace as well as perfectly reproduced widescreen HD format movies or personal HD video content. In order to make sure that HD movies sound as good as they look, the range uses Dolby Sound Room technology to recreate the immersive quality of a small home theater on the notebook’s own speakers or headphones.
