Its seems that since the launch of the of tablet computing devices, manufacturers having been trying to make netbooks out of them and in the case of the MSI Dual Pad they appear to have succeeded. First seen at the CES, MSI brought out this interesting device, that is neither laptop or tablet, just a bit of both that have been mashed together. Basically, the two tablets are held in place with a casing, this serves as case and allows the user to operate the machine like a netbook, but cost could play a big part here, netbooks are very cheap these days.
The best way to launch a product is in stages and it seems that MSI have got this right off from the start. First up there is the launch, this is closely followed by the specs and very nice they are too, finally the release date of which we do not know, yet! However, to keep you interested here are the main features: Type 1 has a 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Solo processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 500 GB hard drive, Bluetooth, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics card, HDMI connectivity, three USB ports, a 15-inch screen and a six-cell battery. Priced at $1,320, available in June in Europe. Type 2 has a cheaper price tag of $1,120 and will released in June in Europe, this has a slower 1.2GHz Intel Celeron processor, 3 GB of RAM and a 320 GB HDD, no Bluetooth connectivity!
Fortunately, there are not too many hybrid laptops around, the only one that is popular and available is the MSI’s 10-inch Wind U115 Hybrid, this uses the 8 Gb solid state drive (SSD) and also at the same time has a 160 Gb hard drive (HHD). This means that the user can switch between the two in order to save on power usage, by disabling the HHD the user can effectively get more out of the battery, which can come in very useful, when power is limited. However, Microsoft does not seem to agree and are trying to ban the computer makers from using Windows XP in laptops that have a hybrid storage system.
You can tell just looking at the GT725 that this has been created for gamers, the price tag is also a slight indication of that too although it is not always possible to judge things by price alone. It is understandable as why these computers are priced at the level they are because gamers are so demanding on the specs. Therefore, this is a machine that is high on the spec level and the amount of money that MSI have spent designing and producing the case.
For MSI it looks as if it is Apple who lay down the benchmarks and MSI try to get a close as they possibly can to these specs. However, at the same time manage to hold back on the total price making them very affordable and there is no denying that the MSI is good value at $899 when it is compared to the Apple at $1,799, which is a hell of a difference. The design of the X340 is second to none with the exception of the keyboard with could have done with some extra work to make it feel worth spending you cash on, after all it is the keyboard that the user has contact with all of the time.
The worse thing about finding a new machine on the market is that lack of information that is around and this is what has happened with the MSI X400 a fourteen inch slim laptop. From the images the laptop has a nice look to it, is has great lines and fantastic design. The information will be coming out as soon as the machine goes on show at the 2009 Computex in Taipei in Taiwan. There is only one real thing to come out about this new computer and that is that it is likely that it will be using the Intel Consumer Ultra Low Voltage (CULV) chip. Source [Tech Fresh] a 14" Laptops, cool, msi, MSI Netbooks, slim, x400
a
