The HP Mini 5101 is the replacement model of the HP Mini 2140; the 5101 will be launched towards the end of July. The differences: It will be available with either an 80GB or 128GB solid state disk or a 7200-rpm 160GB, 250GB, or 320GB hard drive The netbook features a sturdy brushed metal aluminium lid and a magnesium alloy base. There is a 2.0MP webcam instead of the standard 0.3 or 1.3MP camera A choice of a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel glossy display or a higher resolution 10.1 inch 1366 x 768 pixel display. Like the HP Mini 2140, the Mini 5101 will include an accelerometer, which shuts off the hard drive in the event of a fall, a spill-resistant keyboard, and HP’s durakey finish on the keyboard. Includes 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi and an optional Gobi EV-DO/HSPA module. Comes with Windows XP Home, XP Pro, Vista Home Basic, Vista Business, or SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11.
With the introduction of Windows 7 due out in October there would seem to a rush from manufacturers to bring out the first multitouch laptop, these new style machines will offer the user the ability for the first time to get hands with their computer screen. This is good news for the colour filter makers, as it is this technology that enables multitouch to work in the first place. One such producer of this technology is Cando and they are reporting orders from Acre, HP and Lenovo for capacitive touch panels. This means only one thing multitouch screen laptops are on their way.
Personally, I am a big fan of Dell Inspiron laptops as they are so cheap and haven’t failed me so far. I already own two Dell 1525 laptops I bought last year. After searching for a good deal on a 15″ laptop, I finally found a ready-to-ship Dell Inspiron 15 laptop for $539.95 on Amazon. This is much cheaper than Dell.com site itself, I believe it’s because these have slightly slower CPUs than the ones Dell.com is right now selling. These are the good deals you can take advantage of, especially since there’s not much noticeable difference in the slightly slower CPU. If you were to get it on Dell.com, you’d have to get a Celeron CPU, which would really suck. Anyways, I am ordering one right now to do a video review and since I am always in need of new laptops. P.S. Are you kidding me? The new Inspiron 15 with dual-core Intel processor for $539.95? Price: $539.95 on Amazon Features: Product Features Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core mobile processor T3400 – Features a 667MHz frontside bus, 1MB L2 cache and 2.16GHz processor speed. 3GB DDR2 SDRAM memory – For multitasking power, expandable to 4GB. 160GB Serial ATA hard drive … Continue reading →
a

Sometimes you cannot go on the numeric values that manufacturers put onto the models, like the Mini 110 from HP; this is supposed to be replacing the HP Mini 1000! Therefore, there are some light changes in size and looks, but if there is so little to choose from what exactly are the main difference between the two models? The differences between two models: Thicker and heavier. No more glare. It’s got a matte screen now. No awfully slow or small storage (1.8″ PATA) this time. There is a standard 2.5″ SATA drive in there with a 160GB HDD. Now with VGA port. No need for a dongle. No Edge-to-edge display (glass that covers both the screen and bezel) Comes in three colors (white, black and pink) Speaker no longer in the hinge. Same position, but further below at the bottom. Chassis feels a little cheaper than on the Mini 1000 (cheaper material). Three USB ports instead of two on the HP Mini 1000. Includes a VGA port unlike the HP Mini 1000. Touchpad lock button is no longer there. There is some new software, which allows you to sync stuff to other computers. Comes with a 3/6-cell Lithium-Ion battery … Continue reading →
a

Forbes is reporting that HP has its laptops to thank for a better than expected quarter. And with developments like the new Touchsmart TX22 on the way, it looks like the comapny will continue the trend. Forbes says: Hewlett-Packard’s notebook computer sales rose 21.0% during the fourth quarter while desktop sales slipped 2.0%. The company’s software unit posted 13.0% sales growth. So it looks like the trend to move away from desktops toward laptops is going to continue. I know there were hardware limitations in the past, but with most laptops being able to compete on specs these days, it seems pretty silly for anyone to want a desktop. Sure, there are still pockets where a desktop is nice to have. But give me a laptop anyday. a desktop sales, forbes, hewlett packard, hp, HP Laptops, HP Laptops, laptop, Laptop News, notebook computer
a

Toshiba rolls out the Tecra R10 along with the other Portege A600 (read the review). What I like most about this R10 laptop without even looking at specs is how large the cooling metal fins are on the side of the laptop. One of the biggest problems with bigger, performance laptops in the past have been problems with CPU cooling. With great advances in CPU technology, manufacturers usually put a CPU fan that will last just over a year, causing the laptop to break after warranty expires. Sounds like a great way to fool consumers to buy a new laptop every year? (Well that has been case with 2 of my previous $2000 HP laptops, I am not buying HP for awhile now, I switched to Dell.) The cooling fan on this laptop should help you to work for a long time even without laptop cooling mats since the fans come out to the side. Well, a lot of laptops are like this but it’s good to note that this one does have a BIG one. The Toshiba Tecra R10 comes with a 14.1″ widescreen display, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor SP9300, 3GB PC2-6400 DDR2 800MHz SDRAM, 160GB HDD, DVD, … Continue reading →
a

By making use of Microsoft’s Live Search cashback program, you can easily get 20% off HP laptops and stuff bought on eBay. One you enter your e-mail address, you will get the following: There, now you can buy stuff for 20% less. This should be great for any major purchases you make online. I started my search at Live.com and searched for “cheap” along with some product name; I tried a few variations such as “cheap wii” and “cheap laptop” and both worked. (Nick pointed out in the comments that you should sign into Live before you search; I’d forgotten that I was signed into Live when I started. Thanks, Nick!) Looked for the link titled “Buy A Cheap Laptop. You may get XX% off with PayPal if eligible.” (This morning, it was 30%. As I type this, it’s 20%) Searched for the MSI Wind (Buy it Now items only), and purchased it using Paypal. Made sure that at every step of the way, I saw the icon for “Microsoft cashback” at the top of the screen. via hackszine a cheap laptop, e mail address, ebay, hp, hp coupons, HP Laptops, HP Laptops, Laptop Deals, Laptop Hack, Laptop News, microsoft, … Continue reading →
a

Remember our Lenovo IdeaPad S10 review? Well, it seems like there was a missing fact, that this laptop gets way too hot near 100 degrees fahrenheit. I personally own 2 HP laptops that has overheating problems over regular use. If this heat isn’t fixed, I am not sure if a Lenovo IdeaPad S10 will last that long. For now, I say hold onto your money for something else. The keyboard itself gets pretty warm, with temperatures measured between 38 and 42°C (100.4 and 107.6°F). That slightly edges out tests performed on the Eee PC 900 (101°F / 38°C), and leaves your Cloudbook (83°F / 28°C) as cool as a cucumber. There’s no word on the bottom side’s heat signature, but with keys like this we aren’t expecting good things. via engadget a 10.2" Netbooks, Bad Laptops, bottom side, cucumber, eee pc, fahrenheit, heat signature, hp, HP Laptops, keyboard, laptop, Laptop News, lenovo, Lenovo Laptops, money, s10, temperatures
a

MSI is working on their new Wind laptop, which is supposed to compete with the Asus Eec PCs. The Wind will feature a 10-inch display with 1024×600 resolution, 1.3M web cam, 80GB harddrive, and of course a card reader/wifi. According to recent rumors, the MSI Wind will also come equipped either in Windows XP or SuSE Linux. The SuSE Linux version will be a little cheaper, we suggest you to buy that and install your Windows XP separately to save some money. (given that you have your Windows XP disks) Laptop Pimp’s Verdict The laptop specs look very good, especially with the choice of 80GB hard drive and the operating system. A lot of HP laptops come (forced) with a Windows Vista, an operating system no one wants anymore. Kudos to MSI for not becoming corrupt to Microsoft’s backhanded negotiations. We also do like the SuSE option for people who already have Microsoft Windows XP disks. Plus, having a Linux-setup might be great for those consumers who have had hard time installing Linux on their own. MSI Laptop Video It looks like Germans have got their hands on the samples, here’s a video preview of the MSI Wind laptops: Download … Continue reading →
a

(click to enlarge) Here’s number one reason I will never buy HP laptops again. (although my last 2 in the last 2 years has been HP) The reason? They only provide Windows Vista or Vista 64-bit. Vista is a horrible operating system that is slow and does not work with most of my PC peripherals. My next notebook might actually be a MacBook… Well, if they only provided XP OR provided options to use Windows XP, that’d be a different story. It seems that Microsoft has rigged the PC retailer market again and again, monopolizing the consumers to use outdated useless technology. What can you do? Stop buying HP computers until they provide a Linux Ubuntu option, at least that’s more tasty. a consumers, different story, hp, hp computers, HP Laptops, HP Laptops, linux, macbook, microsoft, notebook, operating system, pc peripherals, pc retailer, windows xp
a
