The Toshiba NB550D is a new netbook with a ten inch display, running the AMD C 50 Ontario chip at around 1 GHz dual core CPU, with graphics controlled by the Radeon HD 6250 graphics card and very low power consumption of 9W which is great for producing superior graphics. The low power output means that the AMD processor can work as good at the Atom processor from Intel, but when working with the Radeon graphic card this is a netbook that can easily handle DirectX 11 and produce 1080p high definition video. But although the netbook is about to go on sale in the Australian and European markets, it looks as if there may be a long wait before it turns up on the Toshiba US site.
For fans that do not like putting cash into the pockets of the big boys there has been little choice in the laptop market, but the good news is that Advanced Micro Devices or AMD are doing well in the development of chips for the laptop market. AMD are looking to produce a chip that can prolong battery power, they are also working on chip based on the existing Bobcat chip micro architecture especially for the Tablet market. So it looks as if there is going to be a big AMD assault on the market very soon, then the question will have to which is better, Intel or AMD?
I have to say that after using my Dell Inspiron 1525 for couple months, I highly recommend Dell’s new 1526 series too. Least but not least, Dell as a company have changed their product line drastically over the years through innovative engineering and basically more money in engineering. The Dell Inspiron 1526 features 15.4″ screen with 1280×800 pixel resolution, AMD Turion Dual-Core TL-60 2.0Ghz Processor, 4 gigs of ram, 250GB hard drive, Wifi, Webcam, and 8X DVD Read/Write drive. One thing I’ve noticed on all 1500 series is that it comes with HDMI outputs so you can connect it to your HDTV. Price: $974.99 at Amazon a 15" Laptops, 250gb hard drive, amazon, amd, dell inspiron, Dell Laptops, dual core, gigs, hdtv price, innovative engineering, Laptop News, Laptop Reviews, Laptop Specs, money, pixel resolution, webcam
a

All models can be upgraded to a 4Gb memory, although the version with AMD can be expanded to 8 Gb.
Well, Bloomberg says Microsoft is starting to feel the economic crunch. It makes me wonder if the fact that most netbooks run XP has anything to do with it? Meanwhile, the most mainstream of mainstream newspapers, USA Today, has embraced netbooks as the next tech trend. Earlier this week, the Times talked about people ditching their TV for a laptop. I did. Did you? Ars is talking about AMD’s new external GPUs. Pretty neat. And, for all you out there using MacBooks, make sure you’ve optimized the trackpads: Have a great weekend and we’ll see you next week. a amd, gpu, laptop, Laptop News, MacBooks, microsoft, Netbook Reviews, Netbook Reviews, trackpad, tv
a

Well, the week’s almost over, and here’s whats going on around the world of laptops: Slate has a great article about laptops and energy use, saying laptops are the greenest way to go. PC World is talking about how the poor economy is resulting in free laptop deals everywhere. PC Mag is talking about one of the best features to hit laptops this last few years, switchable graphics. And with the news that AMD wants in, BAM!, Nvidia want in to netbooks too. Mac Rumors has their holiday app bundle for OSX! $450 worth of aps for under $50. a amd, green, Laptop News, nvidia, OSX apps, switchable graphics
a

Cyber Monday might have given all the laptop chip-makers all the proof they needed that netbooks are the next big trend, and if sales keep moving up like they are, netbooks might be the new laptop. cNet is reporting that AMD and a number of other internal parts makers will be entering the netbook market next year. This is a huge change for AMD, who recently aid they would be staying away from netbooks. However, AMD has said they will be looking to on-up Intel’s 10″ netbook market with a larger 12,13 and 14-inch line of netbooks carrying its processors. Interesting that a chip maker is making such an impact on market design. Check out the article, as it gets into 3G, another new and important trend, and a number of other advances that will propel netbooks next year. Meanwhile, no new rumors about Mac’s plans as far at netbooks are concerned. a amd, intel, Laptop Rumors, Netbook Reviews, Netbook Reviews, rumors
a

AMD is out. Intel is way in. Mac is undecided. And yesterday, Nvidia decided it would walk the fence when it comes to laptops too. They are interested, according to PC World. But they want the market to mature first. Microsoft is also weighing in on netbooks, saying the tiny computers run the risk of “canabalizing” the world’s most populer and unstable OS. Oh, waht a shame. The Times is reporting battery company ZPower will be placing all its cards with Silver-Zinc batteries, which are better for the earth and you power rating.
eMachines have always been the low-cost alternative. But now with netbooks flooding the market, eMachines needs to step up its game. So, the company is releasing a full sized laptop for less than $400. Is the eMD620 woth it? Let’s see. As a Best Buy exclusive, this notebook is subpar. An Athlon 2650e with 1.6 GHz won’t get you very far in the office of on the net and the low 1 GB of RAM will surely lead to slowdown within a year. Plus, the little thing us pretty ugly, sports low battery life and only has two USB ports. Overall you are looking at a bad netbook with the only advantage being a bigger screen. Why not go buy a real netbook insted? There is no reaosn for this laptop to exist. Boo.
The LaptopPimp sees a lot of laptops, but rarely does he drool over one like this! HP unveiled the Touchsmart TX2 this morning, and boy am I excited to see what the first-ever consumer multi-touch tablet has to offer, other than the obvious presure it puts on the PC and Mac laptop market. Starting around $1,150, the TX2 is a trend setter for sure. Not only does the multi-touch display offer a tablet orientation, you can use any number of the movements we have been craving since Minority Report featured Tom Cruse soving crime with hand gestures. That means dragging, resizing, pinching, selecting, flicking and double taping — all with your fingers! So put some gloves on, it’s cold out there and you’re going to need those fingertips. The gestures will work with the built-in Windows Vista environment, as well as with HP’s Mediasmart software, which will transform the TX2 into a home entertainment system. (Mediasmart is adding MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon programing this year.) Weiging in at 4.5 pounds, HP packed one hell of a system into the bottom half of the TX2. The high-end guts include a 2.4GHZ AMD Turion X2 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a … Continue reading →
a

Looks like ASUS w/ Intel’s Montevina and AMD Puma processors have been leaked: Based on the existing M51 and M70 lines, the M51VR will feature a 2.26GHz Penryn P8400 with 3MB of L2 cache on Montevina’s 1.06GHz bus, while the M51VA and M70VM (pictured) will get 2.53GHz T9400s with 6MB of cache. ASUS should also be showing off the Puma-based F5Z and X50Z laptops with 1.9GHz AMD Athlon64 X2 QL-60 chips, 667MHz buses, ATI Mobility Radeon HD3200 graphics and 15.4-inch screens at Computex, so it’ll be interesting to see how these bad boys do side-by-side.
