Acer have produced many ten inch netbooks over the past couple of years and every time there are subtle changes in looks and performance, so when the company announce that they are launching the Acer Aspire One D257 we expect to hear about the specs, but Acer are keeping the specs close to the chest on this occasion. So we will have to go with what we know, so far the D257 appears to be thinner and lighter than any netbook in the current Acer range. It has a new style start button and will dual boot Windows 7 Starter Edition and Google’s Android operating system, although this is not a new feature. There is a video on YouTube that gives a quick walk around. Acer claim that the battery will allow up to eight hours of use on a single charge, it will come with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, will have around three USB, VGA and Ethernet ports. The D257 will also come with a choice of colour, these are; aquamarine, dark chocolate, or seashell white. As for the full details, we await on Acer to release them in due course.
For a moment the competition were feeling a bit of relief when report were going around that Acer were going to be phasing out all of their netbooks in favour of tablets. However, the company have issued a statement that completely denies that they are thinking about this action. In fact it seems that Acer will not be even be launching any new tablets with the latest Sandy Bridge platform from Intel, so it seems that for now at least netbooks will definitely be on the Acer Menu! “Acer recognises that the computer market is changing: As PCs are no longer used to only create content but are more and more becoming consumption tools, new devices and new form factors are appearing,” the manufacturer said in a statement. “This means the range of devices available to users is getting wider and tablets are just another piece of the mosaic. Therefore they will find their space next to netbooks and notebooks, without taking over.” Source [Eee PC] a acer, Acer Aspire Netbooks, netbooks, New Netbooks, Tablets
a

This is the Aspire One D255 from Acer, it has been doing the rounds for some time but now it has come out of hiding and is looking good too, even though it is based on the familiar D260 but don’t hold that against it! These are the details and specs of the new Asus 10.1 inch netbook: 10.1 inch LED backlit display with a resolution of 1024 x 699, plus Intel GMA 31509 integrated graphics, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, dual Core Intel Atom N550 processor, dual 1.5GHz cores with 512KB of L2 cache, choice of hard drives up to 250GB, integrated 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a six cell battery No details of prices or a release date yet Source [Eee PC] a 10.1 inch netbook, acer, Acer Aspire Netbooks
a

It seems that Acer are preparing to launch not just netbooks, but other devices too, at the up and coming Computex Trade Show taking place in Taiwan during the first week of June.
The introduction of new parts into a brand is always an exciting thing, especially when it is going to involve the AMD Vision component. These will be fitted into the next generation of Acer laptops due to be launched in July. The Acer laptops are supposed to be the next level of HD video and this is where the AMD Vision chip comes into its own, although there will be the Vision Basic model, which will come without HD video capabilities. It may be early days at the moment, but it still appears that there could be compatibility issues between what Acer want and what the AMD Vision gear can offer, like the fact that Acer like to use Nvidia, while AMD Vision is optimised for use with MSI ATI Radeon, it is bound to work out in the end.
It was not that long that the computer maker Acer announced that they would not bringing out an Android powered netbook until sometime in 2010, but it seems that may have been wrong. According to someone from inside of Acer, the company are actually planning on bringing it out by the fall of this year! Obviously there is not much information around as to what the this machine is going to offer, apart from Android that is, but it will be shipped with both Android and Windows XP that means no price reduction, it will also come with a ten inch display, similar to the D250. Source [Netbooked] a 10" Netbooks, acer, Acer Aspire Netbooks, Android, netbook, Netbook Reviews, Netbooks by Size, new model, q3
a

UPDATE: Acer Aspire One 751 now available on Amazon for $418.99! The all new or not so new Acer Aspire One 751 is a far cry from those early days, but not so different to the recent released versions. This machine has a slimmer profile, easy to use keyboard, bright hi-res display and a supposedly long battery life; these are of course the good points, which actually seem to outweigh the bad points such as single touchpad button and performance.
