HP311 TOUCHPAD IS A FAILURE AND RUINS THIS NIFTY LITTLE NETBOOK. i bought one from Verizon store and returned it to store due to touchpad causing jumping cursor. when i plugged in an external mouse, same issue occurred with jumping cursor. i was unable to turn off or disable touchpad. i got a new HP 311 from verizon. same issue. touchpad is terrible. in MS Word, cursor jumped around and erased multiple lines i had just typed and cursor jumping caused me to type over or insert lines of text all over the place, without my intention. i gave up on writing anything. due to touchpad, this netbook was unusable. dont buy until they fix this issue. love the size, love the keyboard, love many things about it. but the touchpad ruined it all….

Hi, I had a HP311 bought 1 months ago, I had the same problem – the cursor jumping around while I am typing, no matter in MS Word or NotePad…
I found that there is a new version of ALPS driver from HP, after I install this latest driver, it simple work, and I also noticed that this latest driver took of the “Multiguesture” function, make be HP think this is problematic, not sure.
I hope this can hope someone has the same problem as me.
here is the link to the latest ALPS driver :

I’ve never seen a touchpad so sensitive. mine will jerk the cursor around if i put my fingers even 1cm above the pad. i’ll try to get fixed but otherwise it’s a useless laptop.
