A small step up from Dell in the low-price notebook market, Gateway has always been able to pack their laptops with some pretty decent specs. The Gateway MC-7803u is no exception.
Hitting the street at $1000, the MC-7803u is a well designed, nice looking desktop replacement. With it’s Intel Duo T5800 and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 graphics set, it should be able to handle all you everyday home office and internet needs, as well as some basic gaming and editing.
And while the MC-7803u isn’t blowing anyone away, it’s getting some good marks on the net.
PC Magazine said the following in their review:
Gateway has a long history of delivering powerful products at competitive prices, yet for the most part, design has been missing from its repertoire. Now Gateway has that, too—and at a good time, as the MC7803u now sits on retail shelves competing to catch the consumer’s eye. Overall, it’s a very handsome and decent-performing 16-inch laptop at a price that will make any frugal shopper happy.
Laptop Magazine dinged the MC for missing a few little things, such as a blu-ray player, saying:
The touch-sensitive controls aren’t for everyone, and it’s a tad bulky, but we like the flush glass display and overall design. As long as you don’t care about watching Blu-ray movies on your notebook, the MC7803u is quite a bargain.
Overall, if you are a Gateway fan and like the under $1,000 price point, the MC might be a great computer for you. Personally, I’ve had trouble with getting stellar support from Gateway. But that may not be everyone’s top priority.
