eMachines have always been the low-cost alternative. But now with netbooks flooding the market, eMachines needs to step up its game. So, the company is releasing a full sized laptop for less than $400. Is the eMD620 woth it? Let’s see.

As a Best Buy exclusive, this notebook is subpar. An Athlon 2650e with 1.6 GHz won’t get you very far in the office of on the net and the low 1 GB of RAM will surely lead to slowdown within a year.

Plus, the little thing us pretty ugly, sports low battery life and only has two USB ports.

Overall you are looking at a bad netbook with the only advantage being a bigger screen. Why not go buy a real netbook insted?

There is no reaosn for this laptop to exist. Boo.

I bought the eMD620-5777 and it’s great for what i bought it for. I think the netbooks are to small and the look i actually prefer the look of it over the shinny over done laptops of today. The battery life is about 2:50 min so it is just fine for me. I disabled to the crap it shipped with and vista is snappy. Plus i have 160 Gb hard drive so plenty if space. I bought it on sale at best buy for 299.00 plus tax which turn out to be 327 USD out the door not bad. I can update ram at new egg for 11.00 dollars to 2Gb as it has to ddr2 slots. So for 327 i got a lot of laptop and it has a dvd burner most netbooks dont even have a cdrom

I grabbed one of these at $329 from Best Buy and have had great success with it so far. I primarily use it for internet browsing, and have had no problems with that whatsoever. The screen is bright and crisp, the keyboard is perfect in size, and Vista actually does not drag it down at all. Aesthetically, it’s basic, but have to agree with Jeremi — laptop designs can be way too “overdone.” Not going to attempt much more than word processing and email checking on it, but to have that much screen real estate and hard drive space at a netbook price seems like a great value to me.
