In the battle against laptop thieves, Lenovo is giving users a new weapon. The popular ThinkPad manufacturer will start engineering a new SMS, or text message, security system into their laptops. The service will allow users to remotely disable their computers by sending a text message it it.
Each device will be able to link to ten cell phones, so expect larger companies to start integrating the service into their laptop fleets. To use the service, you will need a cellular data card and a working data service provider. But, the added security might well be worth the extra cost.
