As more and more tablet PC’s come on the market on thing becomes clear it makes no difference what the make is or what specs these great looking devices have, the price always appear to be around the $500 mark!

However the chip maker Marvell has plans to launch a new platform that could mean a tablet being produced at just $99, obviously this is not going to be a top of the range tablet as it likely to me directed at the education market.

The firm already has ARM based chip that is good for video, flash and even 3D graphics, so this device could easily take on the role of an e-reader and more.

In China as in many countries the regions are divided up into industries, for instance in China the Shenzhen region is a local centre for gadget manufacturing, not all legal as some clones often creep into the mix.

Talking of which, the tech site shanzai.com took a little look at the ePaper Fair and as predicted there were a few clones on offer, some were not that brilliant either.

This is the TESO iPad look a like, but has more ports and as such is on the thick side so we must assume that it is heavy too.

The latest version of the Classmate PC comes as a convertible tablet making it much more easier for the children to operate under classroom conditions and when the child needs to use a laptop in the conventional manner it can be easily and quickly sorted.

According to the maker of the device Intel, the Classmate PC has a decent 10.1 inch display, rather than the older 8.9 inch display that is generally too small to be used at school. There are also two versions of screen resolution to choose from, the standard 1024 x 600 and the hi res 1368 x 768.

The original clamshell version of the Classmate will cost around $300, for the convertible tablet version there is an additional $30 charged.

ASUS UL30 Series – How to Fix Brightness if Cannot Be Changed from Resume!

I just got an alert from one of my readers that they cannot change brightness on their ASUS UL30Vt after a resume. The same thing has been happening to my ASUS UL30Vt but I found a quick fix over at ASUS’s download page, the BIOS update fixes the issue.

BIOS 210
Solve the bug of the brightness can not be changed after resume from S3 in iGPU mode.

You can go download the latest BIOS 210 at ASUS download page (or check for latest one) or download BIOS 210 here.

After unzipping the downloaded file, run the WinFlash under ASUS Utilities. (If you uninstalled the ASUS Utilities, you can download just the WinFlash also at ASUS’s website.)

Then browse and select the new BIOS file you unzipped earlier like this:

Next, hit “Flash”.

When flashing is done, hit “Exit” and your UL30Vt should reboot.

You can verify that the BIOS has been updated by hitting the Del key at boot-up then F2:

Your brightness settings should work flawless now.

Microsoft is launching into the tablet market to attack the growing band of tablets entering this particular marketplace.

Naturally as with all of these products there is going to be little to choose from between the hole lot of the tablets around, but it seems that Microsoft are planning to market this as a digital journal whatever that is supposed to be!

As far as the specs go, it is supposed to weigh around a pound in weight and as for its size five by seven inches has been mentioned. The user will interface with the device with pen, which suggests that handwriting and drawing will be a big feature with the Courier.
