All the talk of the demise of the netbook may have been a bit premature, shipments for this year are already looking to touch the thirty million mark. While there is a new a processor too, the Atom N570 is clocked at 1.66 GHz was seen at the CES 2011 in Las Vegas, it will replace the N550 with its 1.5 GHz. One of the machines expected to use this processor will be Lenovo, their IdeaPad S100 netbook is due out by the end of February, but others are sure to follow, especially the likes of Samsung with the NC110. However so far it seems that Asus are yet to decide what machine they are going to use first up with this processor, or are they really preparing to slow down the production of netbooks in order to concentrate on the more exciting tablet market! 2011 is going to be an exciting year.
There is something very satisfying about a tablet computer that comes with a built keyboard. This is a keyboard that slides out from under the display as and when needed and it is exactly what Asus has done with the interesting Eee Pad Slider tablet computer. There is a video on YouTube to this baby in action. These are the features that the consumer can expect to find on the Eee Pad Slider from Asus, there is the standard 10.1 inch IPS touch-screen display, with built-in digital cameras on the front at 1.2 mega pixels. While to the rear this is a 5 mega pixel version and there is the useful option of onboard 3G internet, allowing the user to go online whenever there is a decent signal. The device will be running a Nvidia Tegra 2 dual core processor on the Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) operating system, although it should be noted that the demo version at the CES in Las Vegas is running the Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS. The Eee Pad Slider will weigh just 886 grams and is just 16.7 mm thick making it not much thicker than the average netbook.
It looks as if Asus are making some slight changes to the brands entry level machines, namely the Asus Eee PC 1001PQ, Asus Eee PC 1001PX, and last but not least the Asus Eee PX 1005PX these are recognised as being the lower end of the market mainly because of the processor and memory. So now these models will be known as the Asus Eee PC 1001PQD, Asus Eee PC 1001PXD, and Asus Eee PC 1005PXD, this means that these entry level netbooks will now be supporting the Intel Atom N455 processor and DDR3 memory, it just goes to show how prices of hard ware have fallen. On the subject of prices, we are still awaiting news on price and availability of these upgraded Asus machines. Source [Eee PC] a ASUS Netbooks, ASUS Netbooks, new chips and ddr3
a
