While everyone was busy checking out the new Sony S1 and S2 tablet devices, it seems that the something equally as important slipped under the radar without so much as a second glance. So this is what went missing, it is the Ultra Mobile PC and the Freestyle Hybrid PC, these are two cool machines that Sony are hoping will launch later on in the year. Not much is known about the Ultra Mobile PC apart from the fact it is likely to be nice 13” laptop, but as for the Freestyle Hybrid PC, this is a different story all together, with its 9.4 inch display and Pine Trial Atom processor this is one that could become the Sony Vaio Slider with an $800 price tag. Options include choosing the Blu-ray writable drive, a 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 310 graphics card, no WiDi if NVIDIA GeForce 310 graphics card is chosen, up to a 256 GB solid state drive (SSD), and up to 8 GB of RAM. As a bonus any consumer choosing the custom order will qualify for a free upgrade to a Core i5-480M processor, but only the buyer choose the Windows 7 Professional operating system! As with all deals like this, the idea is for the consumer to spend more money on expensive options, the consumer should make sure that what they are buying is what they need otherwise the price can build up very fast.
Sony has been coming out with some serious computers recently, and the Y series could be one of the main competitors in the market where thin and light laptops rule. The main issue that consumers appear to have with Sony laptops and netbooks is price, they always seem to be much more expensive than the nearest competitor in the market. The new Sony VAIO Y VPCYA19FJ is no exception to this rule, sure, it comes with all the features, design and style that you would expect to find in an 11.6 inch screen laptop. However, with a price tag over $1,300 it is going to take some convincing of consumers to fork out that much in a market where price is key. These are the features and specs for the all new and exciting Sony Vaio VPCYA19FJ; Windows 7 Home Premium 64, Core i3-380UM (1.33GHz) CPU, chiclet keyboard 11.6-inch widescreen WXGA (1366×768 resolution) VAIO display, 2GB (2GB × 1) of RAM, 320GB hard drive, Intel ® HD graphics card, W-LAN (BGN), webcam, Bluetooth, Vaio Care and Office Home and Business 2010 preloaded. It weights 1.46kg and has a battery life of up to 6 hours. Priced at around $1,335 Source … Continue reading →
a

As far as Sony goes, this is about as average as you are going to get from the Japanese electronics maker, they appears to be going for a consumer in the mid the range, rather than concentrating on the professional or higher end customer. The base machine will be delivered in a matte black finish, but for an $80 fee, the consumer can choose from a line of vibrant colours such as a two tone black, purple, pink, blue, green and white! The all purpose laptop will be running the Intel Core i3 350M CPU at 2.26GHz, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB 5400-rpm hard drive, so there is a bit of bonus in there with Bluetooth and Intel’s WiDi wireless display support too. These are just some of the details available for the colourful Sony VAIO EA series laptop: Intel Core i3 350M CPU at 2.26GHz. 4GB of RAM. 500GB 5400-rpm hard drive. DVD ± RW drive. 802.11n wireless. Intel WiDi wireless display support and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR Prices start at $699 and can rise up to around $900! Source [Shutter Voice] a ea series, Sony Laptops, the sony vaio laptop
a

The spread of USB 3.0 is on the move with the latest manufacturer Sony installing the superfast connections into the Vaio HD laptops, but as Intel seem to be dragging their heels on this one, it seems that Sony could be calling upon either NEC or Renesas to power the units. The Sony Vaio HD laptops are a desktop replacement on the expensive side, but then again it is to be expected from Sony, but $3,000 is a massive price to pay during the current climate. These are the features and specs of the Sony Vaio laptops that now come with USB 3.0 support: Core i5-460M or the Core i7-740QM, GeForce 310M 512MB or the GeForce GT 425M 1GB graphics card, while both laptops come with 4GB RAM, Blu-ray reader, 500GB 2.5″ drive, a dual HDTV tuner and a 16.4″ full HD LCD display Prices start at $2,140 and rise to around $3,000 Source [Get USB] a Sony Laptops, Sony Laptops, usb 3.0 connection
a

When it comes to buying laptops, we know that Apple and Sony are going to be at the top end of the budget, not matter what your budget is! However, it seems that the Sony VAIO could be falling in price, currently the normal asking price would be around $1,300, yet there are several stores knocking them out now for around $1,170. Now that is a drop, but is it enough? We think that the Sony VAIO should be lower in price, preferably below the $1,000 if it is to attract some serious buyers, or maybe this is brand that feels that it is too exclusive to be in the sub $1,000 price range. These are the features and details for the Sony Vaio 11.1 inch notebook: 2GHz Intel Atom Z550 2GB (1 x 2GB) RAM, 64GB SSD Hard Drive, Intel GMA 500 Graphics, 11.1″ LED Backlit Widescreen Display, Integrated Webcam and Microphone, Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Verizon Mobile Broadband, GPS, Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit) and weighs 1.6 lb Priced at around $1,169.95 Source [Liliputing] a falling in price, Sony Laptops, sony vaio laptops
a

According to a statement by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there is a certain amount of Sony Vaio laptops that could be prone to overheating issues. The CPSC have received around thirty complaints about the problem. The total amount computers affected by this problem is well over half a million and with only ninety thousand being sold in Europe that’s a lot to go around the rest of the world. The problem affects machines with the serial numbers beginning with VPCF11 and VPCW2. There is a support page on the Sony Site, where help can be found, but currently the company are issuing the machines with updated Bios settings, which should solve the problem.
The Japanese based electronics maker Sony are turning their Vaio Z and Y series laptops into mobile hotspots by adding its “Share My Connection” wireless service, it’s not Wi-Fi it’s more like Mi-Fi as it turns the laptop into a mini hotspot allowing up to five other devices to connect to the internet. This is a handy piece of kit, but is only available in the US through the carrier Verizon. Here are some further details regarding the “Share My Connection” service: Once you activate the Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband account** on your applicable Z or Y Series laptop, Share My Connection™ technology converts the wireless mobile broadband signal into a Wi-Fi signal that can be transmitted through your PC to up to five Wi-Fi-enabled PCs or devices. This means that your VAIO® laptop, through the genius of Sony engineering, can do double duty as a hotspot while still maintaining full PC functionality. However, what if the company stopped making laptops and paid someone else to do that job would the build be done as well and would the consumer be satisfied that the Sony VAIO is worth the cash? It seems that we are about to find out as it seems that Sony are planning on slitting its laptop business into two units, one will remain the same building the VAIO etc to the high standards. The other will be a second division producer using older hardware; it is like a second life for older computer parts. Source [Zdnet] a sony, Sony Laptops, split brands
a
