Dell re-introduces their Inspiron 13z and 14z laptops, which have been slimmed down to 1-inch thickness and aluminum back with additional metal finish near the touchpad. I think this is a great move for a $600 laptop as it makes the laptop sleeker and more usable from portability standpoint. One more thing I would like to see improved? If Dell could just cut out the optical DVD drive, which most of us don’t need anyways and slim the laptop to near 3/4 of an inch, it would make the 13z and 14z much lighter plus the battery would last longer. For people who absolutely need a DVD, Dell can offer an external option. And yes, having a Dell-supported DVD-burning (into ISO) software could also help alleviate those users who need to watch movies contantly. It’s a great laptop and I would recommend it, I personally just detest the bulky DVD slot. via engadget a aluminum, dell, HP Laptops, inspiron 13z, inspiron 14z
a

The cancellation trend within the laptop industry continues, this time it is HP who are in the cutting frame of mind and despite dropping the price of the HP Envy 13 towards the end of last year, it seems that the time is finally up for the Envy 13 with the laptop being removed from the HP product range. When the Envy 13 was first released, it was a direct competitor of the Apple MacBook Air and as these machines are still going strong it seems that the ultrathin range for the likes of Dell and HP is now over. although the industry rumour is that both firms are regrouping and are likely to return with something to compete with the Apple Ultrathin range in the near future. However, at the moment, this seems to be a sector that Apple has won hands down. Source [Digital Trends] a cancelled, envy 13, hp, HP Laptops, Laptop News
a

With the CES 2011 in full swing, we tend to expect everything to be all shiny and new, but that is not always the case as seen with HP, they have a new laptop out in the Pavilion range and to compensate this, they have upgraded the three of the most popular models too. This balancing act means that the Envy 17, Pavilion dv6 and the Pavilion dv7 all get to use the latest Sandy Bridge technology as well as AMD’s latest Radeon HD 6000M graphics, although HP have given the option to upgrade to the Intel Core i7 and the AMD Radeon HD 6850 graphics solution. Of course this means that the prices will change, after all HP are not doing this out of the kindness of their hearts, this is business and the consumer always ends up paying in one way or another. However currently the cost of the HP Envy 17 has not been released, while the dv6 will cost $900 and the dv7 will carry a $1,000 price tag as from the 9th January.
