First look at the 11.6 inch MacBook

It seems that the rumours were true and Apple has finally decided to enter netbook territory with the launch last night of the new MacBook. As you can imagine details are very thin on the ground at the moment, but we know that, this is a very desirable piece of kit. UPDATE! It seems that the Apple MacBook will have the same one piece aluminium case, which is only 0.68 inches at its thickest and a mere 0.11 inches at the tampered end. There are two USB ports, but HELLO! There is no SD card slot! As you can see from the image the keyboard is not backlit, no 3G wireless, no Ethernet port and no dedicated HDMI or VGA outputs either! More to follow in due course. It is believed the latest MacBook due to be announced by Apple will be smaller and lighter than anything we have seen and it will be running an older version of Intel’s core processor. This smaller, lighter and less expensive MacBook points to the fact that Apple are not in the netbook market, but with rumours that a MacBook just like what we have been describing all ready running off the production lines in Taiwan. This is a revolutionary new idea coming out of the Apple designer’s imagination, this is really for all of those people who do not use the keyboard anymore and can quite easily manage all of their computer operations with one hand, in a similar manner to the way the iPods are operated. As you can see from the image the new Mac Book looks simple enough to use, however I suppose the writing of lengthy text is going to take a long time without the use of a keyboard, but it is always going to be possible to add a keyboard if necessary. Ars Technia first turned me on to the new developer build for Mac OSX is out there. Looks like the build has over 100 fixes, but Apple is still asking for input concerning Mail. Ars said: Apple is asking developers to bang on MobileMe’s automatic syncing feature with portable Macs and on networks with medium-to-high latency or constrained bandwidth. Apple wants to hear from developers who work behind firewalls and corporate proxies, and it’s also interested in hearing if changes sync between Macs and the MobileMe website within “a reasonable amount of time” when automatic syncing is turned on. Netbook Review – Does the Asus Eee PC stand up against a MacBook?

We talk about netbooks a lot here on LaptopPimp, and we also tend to wonder about the future of Mac and the netbook market. Well, MacWorld got around to wondering the same things and they posted a large article about how the Asus Eee PC holds up against a MacBook. Here’s some of the highlights: Size: My first impression—and one that’s endured—is that the 1000HA is small. Smaller, in fact, than any laptop I’ve ever owned. So it was complete culture shock to suddenly find myself with a laptop computer with a downsized keyboard (Asus claims it’s about 92 percent the size of a “full” laptop keyboard, but it definitely is markedly smaller than what I’m used to) and overall dimensions so small that I have trouble balancing it on my lap without having it fall through my legs. The keyboard does have nubs on the home row keys, which makes touch-typing possible. The unusual and somewhat cramped keyboard layout (cursor keys jammed into an area to the left of the right shift key) took me about a day to get used to. AppleInsider is reporting that Apple resellers are getting ready for the post-Thanksgiving rush with some special deals on the MacBook and the Office suite. So far, the MacBook Pro will be $200 to $250 less on Friday. Grab one up! With a new hardware type to work with, Microsoft will have their hands full trying to get the most out of the netbook specs.
