Check this out! A computer case made from recycled paper, this may seem to be a bit extreme but according to PEGA Design & Engineering based in Taiwan and China, and they have made some significant moves in the right direction when it comes to eco friendly computer cases. We cannot do without computers, but replacing them every one or two years means that the waste that goes into landfills is building up dramatically and this just is not sustainable over a long period of time. However, the material being developed by PEGA is made from recycled paper and polypropylene both of which are totally biodegradable and yet it is waterproof and tough enough to be used for computer casings.
It seems that we are in a period of concept design, where the laptops and tablets that we have come to know so well could be change completely from what the convention is, to a completely new idea of folding and rolling devices that save space and can be easily carried around. This Rolltop idea is very interesting; it allows the user to have laptop size computing without the need of carrying a bulky and heavy machine around, could it catch on, yes definitely, so long as the costs are kept down. These are the details for the Rolltop concept laptop design; Rolltop is a portable computer for designer, architect and everyone, who would like to have a gadget, which, from an aesthetic standpoint alone, certainly hits the mark. By virtue of the OLED-Display technology and a multi touch screen the utility of a laptop computer with its weight of a mini-notebook and screen size of 13 inch easily transforms into the graphics tablet, which with its 17-inch flat screen can be also used as a primary monitor due to the support attached to the back of the screen.
If you have bought a laptop or any other piece of electrical equipment over the past year why not nominate it for the Engadget 2008 awards, you can even nominate a gadget that you have come to hate for some reason. Its way to spread the word on how good or bad your laptops, computers and gadgets are, as usual, there are some rules of what not to do. Here are five simple rules of what NOT to do: Do not include your reasons for nominating it. You can debate the product later when we put it up to vote. Just leave the name of what you want to nominate, ok? Do not nominate anything that was not sold for the first time in 2008. We will allow updated versions of previous devices, however. No concept devices or prototypes. It has to be a real gadget people can buy! Pre-orders do not count. Do not nominate anything more than once. It’s not a popularity contest (yet), all it does is make our lives harder. Just do a quick find to see if someone’s already beat you to it. Seriously, don’t nominate anything that … Continue reading →
a

A few days back, the Laptop Pimp took a look at the HP Mini 1000 and he was pretty interested in the little netbook from HP. But, will the Vivienne Tam Edition of the Mini 1000 make the cut? Let’s find out. When it comes down to Specs, you are looking at the exact same computer as the normal Mini 100. The $150 price difference between the two machines is a matter of the case. This makes sense, seeing that Tam is a fashion designer, and this edition of the Mini has a beautiful red case with a flower detail. But the Pimp wants to know something. Do people buy it? Is a case worth $150? I mean, the Mini is a slick looking computer to begin with, and the red case is wonderful. But I’m not sure it’s worth the cash. If you are spending money on a netbook, you want a simple computer at a good price. The HP Mini’s $400 price point is perfect, offering a great XP-based system for a price far lower than a number of other netbooks. But, the Tam edition just adds cost for a product you want to be inexpensive to begin … Continue reading →
a

The folks over at Gizmodo have posted on this interesting and, absolutely illegal, new MacBook Nano. That’s right, it’s not a apple product, but it sure looks like one. I’m sure these won’t be on the market long at all, not if Steve Jobs has anything to say about it. The MSI U100 MacBook Nano is a lovely little knock off, with a great Mac design and a lot of good specs packed in to the case. Don;t ask wher to buy one, though. Because I have no idea where to find a black market Mac. The black market, I suppose. The photos and specs come from a Flickr account, and you can see the whole spread at Mickphoto’s page. Apparently, this fake machine comes in wither black or white to keep with Apple’s standards. (ha ha) The laptop comes loaded with both Windows XP and OSX Lepoard. (Even fakers dont like Vista.) So, while you are waiting for the new, real MacBook nano, check out the fake one for a while. Please let me know what you think about this box in hte comments. I have a feeling Mac addicts will scream “faker,” while PC lovers might like to … Continue reading →
a

ASUS, after months of deliberation and leaked photos of the new sustainable “green” bamboo laptop, has finally announced the arrival of ASUS Bamboo series. FYI, bamboo is one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable wood out there plus it feels good. (I even personally own a bamboo flip-flops, which I swear by) Bamboo has been used for centuries over in Asia for furniture, architecture, you name it. I think bamboo will also act as a great heat-absorbent for the laptop itself while cutting carbon footprint of course. The ASUS Bamboo Series notebook: A Seamless Marriage of Art and Engineering The first thing about the ASUS Bamboo Series notebook that commands immediate and unfailing attention is its artisan-grade Moso bamboo paneling, which is crafted with the precision and care typically associated with bamboo instruments and arts and crafts. The organic tactility, refreshing scent and minimalist aesthetics of bamboo lend the ASUS Bamboo Series notebook an arresting aura of spirituality, warmth and old world charm that synthetic materials and cold, impersonal metals will struggle to replicate. With every touch, users will be able to feel the difference – the bamboo gives an instant sense of familiarity, just like the sensation one would … Continue reading →
a

Dell is now offering these special “Art Edition” laptops with some really creative graphics. It seems like a nice addition to their new line of Dell Studio 15 and 17 laptops. Dell has just announced addition to its Artistic Laptop Studio 15 and 17 designed by urban artist Mike Ming. The new designs are namely “Red Swirl,” “Seaweed,” “Sunburst,” in addition to the previously released “Bunch O Surfers” and “Sea Sky.” The new Dell manufacturing technique brings alive every color and brushstroke on the laptop’s cover, giving it “tattoo” and graffiti for an entirely new level of personalization. via techfresh, Product Page a art edition, brushstroke, creative graphics, Dell Laptops, laptop, Laptop Design, Laptop News, laptops, new dell, personalization, seaweed, sky, special art, sunburst, surfers, swirl, tattoo, urban artist
a
