There are always plenty of rumours around over Chrome and netbooks, but this time the rumour appears to have some function behind it. The rumour is that Asus are looking to build a low priced netbook running a cheaper operating system, which would be either Android or Chrome. Generally netbooks are going to be priced at around $300, but if Asus were to pull this off it could see a netbook hitting the market with a much lower starting price, possibly even around the $200 mark and would be interesting to a wide ranging market of buyers.
Eye Control sounds like the latest Apple product, but it is in fact an interesting concept that allows the user to control the laptop buy simply just looking at the screen! The advantages of such an application are obvious, gaming springs to mind, but the Tobii system has been designed to complement the keyboard and mouse rather than replace them. This is an excerpt from the company’s press release; Most computer manufacturer’s today endeavour to enhance their products by adding more and more natural interfaces. Using our eyes to point, select and scroll is completely intuitive and complements traditional control interfaces, such as the mouse and keyboard, in a very natural way. “More than anything else, the Tobii laptop prototype is proof that our eye tracking technology is mature enough to be used in standard computer interfaces. To reach a state where the technology is part of the average computer, we need to make it smaller and cheaper. We believe that this can be realized in a couple of years by partnering with the right manufacturer,” comments Henrik Eskilsson, CEO of Tobii Technology.
I have to say that my latest $380 investment on an Eee PC 1000HE netbook is worth a lot more than an iPhone or any other small mini-computer you can buy. Aside from the portability of a netbook, (and the fact that I am currently blogging live from the outdoor lounge chair department at my local Target store) netbooks these days come with no CD drives to cut down on costs and weight. This isn’t actually bad news since you can easily burn your CDs and DVDs using a software like Virtual CD from Germany. The Virtual CD lets you easily burn your CD/DVDs into ISO images, which then can instantly emulated as virtual CD/DVDs. Since my Eee PC comes with a hefty 160GB of harddrive, I can easily store many DVDs, especially if I am on a long travel. Plus, Virtual CD will be faster than any real physical drive at 200X speed. Without a doubt, software like this will let you free yourself from carrying a full-fledged laptop. Try it out yourself here by downloading the trial version here. a bad news, doubt, dvds, emulator, germany, iphone, iso cd, iso images, laptop, Laptop News, Laptop Software, lounge chair, … Continue reading →
a

Could be it be true that Microsoft are planning to get a slimmed down version of their new operating system Windows 7 onto the latest mini laptops being offered by computer makers? It would seem that it could well be true and that a starter edition could be the answer. This would mean that the new operating system could be going head to head with the Linux systems that are currently very popular with the mini laptop makers. However, would this mean Microsoft having to give away yet more software in order to compete, we will have to wait and see it this really does happen in the first place to find that one out. Source [Engadget] a Laptop Accessories, Laptop Rumors, Laptop Software, microsoft, Mini-laptops, os, Windows 7
a

When you think about operating systems, it is normally Linux and Microsoft that dominate the marketplace, but there could be another kid on the block soon as it seems that the mobile operating system from Google, Android can work on computers too. It is known as a mobile operating system, but the Android OS can easily be transferred to a computer too, some researchers have has it running on a couple of Asus Eee computers for some time, this is mainly because of the open source drivers which is making easier to convert. Could this be the beginning of a technology led advance into the computing world Google. Source [Cheap Laptops] [Gallery] a Android, google, Laptop DIY, Laptop Software, marketplace, microsoft, open source drivers, operating system, operating systems
a
